Guess Whos Back, Back Again
On the music scene, I've been listening to some new things and some old new things so I'm just gonna cover them in a quick (?) fashion.
Diamond District
I read about these dudes here and there. From little bits and pieces I heard from their In The Ruff album, their debut, they have a good classic hip hop style about them. Streets Wont Let Me Chill is a really nice song. When I get around to it, I'm definitely gonna spend some time listening to their album.
Finale
A Pipe Dream and A Promise. Dope album. Great beats from great producers. He has nice lyrics as I would expect from a Detroit rapper. I have to admit and wonder if I'm alone but he is hard to hear/understand sometimes. My only beef. He has a good flow and those beats are just great. I love Motor Music and The Waiting Game (w/ Invincible).
The Cool Kids-Gone Fishin
Cannon! Brings back memories. At first when I was skipping around random songs on this mixtape I said, "Oh no, Cool Kids fell off!" After sitting down and listening all the way through, nope they definitely improved. Their flow and lyrics have definitely stepped up. Just from the intro you can tell their flow is smooth(er) and while overall I still prefer their older beats/production the ones on this tape are still dope. Art of Noise is easily my favorite track, I love that sample. I think I read somewhere that Bake Sale wasnt a stuido album so I expect their first LP to be great. Maybe 13-14 tracks from 3 to 3 1/2 min would be good for a opening LP. One thing I can guarantee is that they'll be original.
DOOM
I used to not like DOOM. His voice, I found annoying. The lyrics, I found random. The video (for All Caps), I found interesting though. My mind was made up on him when I read he was sending imposters to perform for him on stage. Then all of a sudden I gave him another chance, no homo lol. And Madvillainy blew me away. Madlib is a beast on the beats and DOOM is a monster. He is funny and he throws together rhymes effortlessly. I especially love it when he sets up a line to make you think you have it figured out and he switches it up at the end to be funny. Example: "Spit so many verses sometimes my jaw twitches/ One thing this party could use is more...Booze". Born Like This goes hard too. One spin through and I like it. Batty Boyz is dope and Gazzillion Ear is the best, J Dilla is a beast on the beats! I also got Operation Doomsday but have really only listened to the Doomsday, which I enjoy greatly. I'll listen to the rest tommorow.
Eminem
Relapse! I like the album. I like even the "wack, accent" songs. I have skipped around it but will sit down to listen to it completely soon. I also think I switched over from the Slim Shady LP to the Marshall Mathers LP. Slim Shady LP has better hit songs I think (I LOVE Guilty Conscience), but I guess I have to admit MMLP is a better album, plus you cant go wrong with Stan.
Rock The Bells
Also I think I want to go to Rock The Bells when it rolls on through Detroit. I've only been to one concert, Glow In The Dark Tour, and I missed Lupe.
The Rock the Bells tour in Detroit featuring:
Nas & Damian Marley, The Roots, Busta Rhymes, Big Boi, Reflection Eternal, Slaughterhouse, Slum Village, Tech N9ne, K'Naan, The Knux, Chali 2na
I like Nas, Damian Marley I assume is dope like his pops, I like the Roots, I guess Busta is straight, I like Big Boi, I like Talib Kweli from Reflection Eternal, I like Royce and Crooked I from Slaughterhouse, I like eLZhi from Slum Village, heard of but never heard Tech, I like K'Naan, heard of but never heard The Knux, and heard of but barely heard Chali. So I think if I went, I'd think it'd be pretty enjoyable.

Smoke and Rhymes
Got outta school and went ball and chain unlimited.
Went to The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, MI. Saw Del The Funky Homosapien better than N*E*R*D* only because no one jumped ya boy. I did get high from 2nd hand smoke. And I am paying for it, because my head is killing me. And I was hungry. Very hungry. Haha.
This blog is taking me forever to write. Kinda ashamed about that.
So I'm gonna wrap it up quick.
It was fun, music was good, day was fun. Now that both Rob an I are in Michigan....look for videos....and sh*t.... Haha.

Working Hard
I'm on a mission to find more beats. Even though I already laid down lyrics for like 8 or something tracks already I'm digging through my J Dilla collection to find something. I was gonna take another instrumental off of Cunninlynguists Strange Journey but I realized I already had laid down some lyrics for Never Come Down. The beats by Kno are all great but the only other one I would consider using off that album is Move. Don't Leave When the Winter Comes has the best beat and lyrics on the album though.
Move
I'm listening to J Dilla's album Vintage. Nice laid back beats. Earl is pretty nice. But I like Dreamy the best and will put that into consideration. Yesterday I was listening to a J Dilla Mix I made which has the best beats some J Dilla fans would recognize (Believe in God, Look of Love, Nothing Like This, Flyyyy, etc) and Love It Here is the best J Dilla instrumental ever. I have been addicted to it the past like two weeks and its on my phone now. Elzhi's verse over the beat on his Witness My Growth cd is on my phone now too :)
Dreamy
Love It Here, eLZhi verse
Now that I think about it I remember I wanted to look at some Apollo Brown (Detroit producers stand up!) stuff too. His album Skilled Trade is dope and I am waiting on the next one, the stuff I heard off of his myspace is great. My favorite beat off of Skilled Trade is Born on Halloween. I looked and see it isnt on youtube so I'll just link some of my other favorite stuff.
Without Jan (mom).......This one definitely reminds me of Dilla

I Need A Shot...of Ambition...
Mobile Bloggin, b*tch! Haha.
Anyways. I <3 Datarock. Much. Not enough to use it on a track but enough to drive Rob crazy with it. "Fa-Fa-Fa!" (great song)
Summer is drawing nearer. I've mapped out my lyrics, well some of them, atleast. Just need some more beats, and I need for Bobbito aka "Danny Brown's number 1 Fan" to get back so we can lay it down, like a kid to bed.
"I scam on waitresses, that's half my age and sh*t." Mochipet is a funny guy. We have the same rhyme, as I noticed. But then again I have the same rhyme scheme as Cam'ron and JR Writer, so.....that's not saying much.
I wanna use a tekken song, but 1) idk if that would work, 2) Rob might object, 3) Namco, and its endless spies, might try and sue and, 4) Idk what beat I would choose.
But that's all from me.

Lupe The Jedi
I also just finished listening to Madvillainy. I saw a thread on the okayplayer boards which I frequently lurk and saw a poll comparing Madvillainy to Illmatic. Yes MF Doom/Madlib are a great team but they aint beatin Nasir. Especially young, hungry, socially aware, enlightened Nasir.
I'm now in a grimey Lupe Fiasco mood. So I'm listening to Lupe The Jedi. I'm bored so I'll give a mini review of it while I'm listening. Its only 38 minutes so this wont be too bad.
Intro- Argh boring shoutouts. I dont know who these people are! I like humming the beat though.
FNF Goin Up- Everybody uses this beat it seems like. First verse- eh. Second verse- better. Third verse- Straight.
Dead Presidents Freestyle- Too hard for me to hate. I love Dead Presidents. He comes out the box with that heat "No question, you aint gotta a-s-k/ i fly through, pocket full of j-f-k's/ i rise to, the occasion like toast...". Great lyrics over a great beat.
Lu Myself- Now he uses the eminem beat (first couple of songs off of relapse have me worried). Great flow and good lyrics on this one.
The Map- I like this song. "It's Was, hot like the left side of the sink". At first I kind of skipped over this/said huh? But then another time I played it, made me think, and laugh once I realized that the hot knob is always on the left. I love the verse's constant water and sink references. He uses them excellently.
Absolute Freesytle- This song has the most plays out of any on my iTunes for Lupe The Jedi. I love the beat and the first lyrics are great to pull you in; "My mind remain on gunplay, while yall niggas sleep like Jermaine on Sunday. The heat stay packed like the train on Monday." More good references in this one as well. Flow, lyrics, beat wise easily my favorite on Lupe The Jedi.I love the "upfront with the Africans" line near the end too.
Dynasty Freestyle- This song is straight. Flow is alright. Good but not on the level of a few other songs on the disc.
Didn't You Know- I dont like this has the same name as a much better song on the Revenge of the Nerds mixtape. Joey Budden leads it off. Probably my least favorite song on the mix. Lupe a little more mainstreamish on this track.
Pop Pop- Me and Dirty Rose arent fans of the Like Liquor For Punks version of this. I'm not a fan of the this original version either. The hook is decent I suppose.
Gangsta Gangsta- The intro for this reminds me of "My World Is..." by Blu from his amazing album "Below the Heavens", which makes me smile because I love that album. Basically a Food & Liquor for the West Coast. Hard for Lu to sound wack over this beat. I enjoy the hook and the song.
Sittin Sideways Freestyle- Last track. Longest track. Good song. Then I realized the lyrics sounded familiar. Very familiar. Then I checked and yup its the same as Titled Pt. 3 from Revenge of the Nerds. But it has a Jay Z verse stuck in there.
Well thats it. Hopefully the Eagles dont disappoint me tomorrow/today in the draft. Hopefully Conner Barwin (U of D alumni stand up!) goes to a decent team and has a good career. And hopefully you read future enteries. HOB first mixtape coming this summer.
