Working Hard

Two finals down! Glad to get oral communications and math over with right off the bat.

I'm on a mission to find more beats. Even though I already laid down lyrics for like 8 or something tracks already I'm digging through my J Dilla collection to find something. I was gonna take another instrumental off of Cunninlynguists Strange Journey but I realized I already had laid down some lyrics for Never Come Down. The beats by Kno are all great but the only other one I would consider using off that album is Move. Don't Leave When the Winter Comes has the best beat and lyrics on the album though.

Move

I'm listening to J Dilla's album Vintage. Nice laid back beats. Earl is pretty nice. But I like Dreamy the best and will put that into consideration. Yesterday I was listening to a J Dilla Mix I made which has the best beats some J Dilla fans would recognize (Believe in God, Look of Love, Nothing Like This, Flyyyy, etc) and Love It Here is the best J Dilla instrumental ever. I have been addicted to it the past like two weeks and its on my phone now. Elzhi's verse over the beat on his Witness My Growth cd is on my phone now too :)

Dreamy

Love It Here, eLZhi verse

Now that I think about it I remember I wanted to look at some Apollo Brown (Detroit producers stand up!) stuff too. His album Skilled Trade is dope and I am waiting on the next one, the stuff I heard off of his myspace is great. My favorite beat off of Skilled Trade is Born on Halloween. I looked and see it isnt on youtube so I'll just link some of my other favorite stuff.

Without Jan (mom).......This one definitely reminds me of Dilla

I Need A Shot...of Ambition...

What up?
Mobile Bloggin, b*tch! Haha.
Anyways. I <3 Datarock. Much. Not enough to use it on a track but enough to drive Rob crazy with it. "Fa-Fa-Fa!" (great song)

Summer is drawing nearer. I've mapped out my lyrics, well some of them, atleast. Just need some more beats, and I need for Bobbito aka "Danny Brown's number 1 Fan" to get back so we can lay it down, like a kid to bed.

"I scam on waitresses, that's half my age and sh*t." Mochipet is a funny guy. We have the same rhyme, as I noticed. But then again I have the same rhyme scheme as Cam'ron and JR Writer, so.....that's not saying much.

I wanna use a tekken song, but 1) idk if that would work, 2) Rob might object, 3) Namco, and its endless spies, might try and sue and, 4) Idk what beat I would choose.

But that's all from me.

Lupe The Jedi

I got back in a while ago from seeing Obsessed with some friends. Beyonce kicked some a$$!

I also just finished listening to Madvillainy. I saw a thread on the okayplayer boards which I frequently lurk and saw a poll comparing Madvillainy to Illmatic. Yes MF Doom/Madlib are a great team but they aint beatin Nasir. Especially young, hungry, socially aware, enlightened Nasir.

I'm now in a grimey Lupe Fiasco mood. So I'm listening to Lupe The Jedi. I'm bored so I'll give a mini review of it while I'm listening. Its only 38 minutes so this wont be too bad.

Intro- Argh boring shoutouts. I dont know who these people are! I like humming the beat though.

FNF Goin Up- Everybody uses this beat it seems like. First verse- eh. Second verse- better. Third verse- Straight.

Dead Presidents Freestyle- Too hard for me to hate. I love Dead Presidents. He comes out the box with that heat "No question, you aint gotta a-s-k/ i fly through, pocket full of j-f-k's/ i rise to, the occasion like toast...". Great lyrics over a great beat.

Lu Myself- Now he uses the eminem beat (first couple of songs off of relapse have me worried). Great flow and good lyrics on this one.

The Map- I like this song. "It's Was, hot like the left side of the sink". At first I kind of skipped over this/said huh? But then another time I played it, made me think, and laugh once I realized that the hot knob is always on the left. I love the verse's constant water and sink references. He uses them excellently.

Absolute Freesytle- This song has the most plays out of any on my iTunes for Lupe The Jedi. I love the beat and the first lyrics are great to pull you in; "My mind remain on gunplay, while yall niggas sleep like Jermaine on Sunday. The heat stay packed like the train on Monday." More good references in this one as well. Flow, lyrics, beat wise easily my favorite on Lupe The Jedi.I love the "upfront with the Africans" line near the end too.

Dynasty Freestyle- This song is straight. Flow is alright. Good but not on the level of a few other songs on the disc.

Didn't You Know- I dont like this has the same name as a much better song on the Revenge of the Nerds mixtape. Joey Budden leads it off. Probably my least favorite song on the mix. Lupe a little more mainstreamish on this track.

Pop Pop- Me and Dirty Rose arent fans of the Like Liquor For Punks version of this. I'm not a fan of the this original version either. The hook is decent I suppose.

Gangsta Gangsta- The intro for this reminds me of "My World Is..." by Blu from his amazing album "Below the Heavens", which makes me smile because I love that album. Basically a Food & Liquor for the West Coast. Hard for Lu to sound wack over this beat. I enjoy the hook and the song.

Sittin Sideways Freestyle- Last track. Longest track. Good song. Then I realized the lyrics sounded familiar. Very familiar. Then I checked and yup its the same as Titled Pt. 3 from Revenge of the Nerds. But it has a Jay Z verse stuck in there.

Well thats it. Hopefully the Eagles dont disappoint me tomorrow/today in the draft. Hopefully Conner Barwin (U of D alumni stand up!) goes to a decent team and has a good career. And hopefully you read future enteries. HOB first mixtape coming this summer.

A Pimp....in My Own (Own) F*ckin Mind (Mind)

Ray cash is a lyrical genius. Don't look @ me like I'm speaking Chinese. I didn't stutter. Man is a boss. Sadly, the realer he started rapping, the less and less they started playing him. When he is rapping light hearted and in a satirical fashion like in "Sex Appeal" (or "Pimp in My Own Mind") he rides the air waves, like a king. When he gets a bit more serious, but not much like "Bumpin My Music" they started to back off some. After "Amerikkka" (notice the 3 ks) I thought Ray Cash died. That's how little I heard from him again. That needs to stop. Man is the truth.
"I call her Monica, She Call Me President-ial, she's a dime, when I flip her, its either head or tails." (coldest one liner ever)

The instrumental to "Sex Appeal" aint bad either....Rob...we might be using that....

But I felt the need to say that.

On an HOB note: last class today, time to lyric write tomorrow and Sunday. Ballin. Getting the headset for my phone so I can record into my phone too? Extra ballin. And1....

But I'm out.

Peace (With Some Love)

I'm not good with titles.

[looks below to see if anyone posted below him]

Kanye West-Amazin'

GLC looks like a goon in the background

Anyways, this is the third writer of the blog and I'm a gooooon.

So .. uh .. I'm listening to Nobi. The negro is cold. Thinking Out Loud is the shit. I've just been randomly downloading anything that looks decent and this was a homerun. He's too nice. Along with Cyrano. I was sitting here like, "Cyrano sounds just like MF Doom." Come to figure, Cyrano and MF Doom have the same producers so they inevitably sound alike, kinda like how Santogold and MIA sound similar.

follow me on twitter: RockIt Man

oh yea, Wale is gonna be at The Shelter in May, stay posted for more details.

Tape You....All Night....Yeah....

i cant get over the instrumental to "Tape You" by N*E*R*D* off of the CD, "In Search Of..." and i mean the Rock oriented one. the electronic one has the sex scene @ the end, and i only like the beat of it. and plus the skits kinda bother me after a while, i just wanna get to the song, and thats it.
i have been playing these instrumentals over and over again: (in no particular order)
"Clones: Intro" by the Neptunes
"Run To The Sun" NERD
"Tape You" NERD
"I Know" Jay-Z (produced by The Neptunes...shoulda know)
"Lavish" Twista" (another Neptunes beat)
"Signs" Snoop Dog (i knew Neptunes when i heard it the first time on Snoop's CD)
and any other Neptunes produced beat....even "Like I Love You" by Justin "White Boy I <3 To Hate" Timberlake and "I Still Love You" by 702

the neptunes just have a way of putting together beats that make you go...."hey...this beat is tight...but kinda hard too" not too much bass, and enough sounds that make you remember them. i hate super bass-ed out songs....because they take away from the actual song. i dont wanna remember the bass beating my head in. i wanna remember that one beat. like Missy Elliot's "Get Your FreAK On" that Benghali string set played through out the song....i had to look that up so i didnt sound super racist.

in HOB news: after this week, i will be free to record. all i will have left is math finals. so i can actually put my tongue/pen to the mic/paper *NO HOMO!* also we might be adding someone onto the blog...to spice stuff up so you'll hear from more than one person...it will also get our word out better

ok, well,i'm about to chow down on my White Castle, and Garlic Bread
Peace (with some Love)

Short and Sweet

Well I have a math test tomorrow and I need to do well on it so I'm studying/listening to Mike Posner and The Brain Trust. Did not know anything about him until I listened to Big Sean's UKNOWBIGSEAN mixtape and the song Who Knows. Well his A Matter Of Time album is short and sweet and pretty good. Its available for free download on iTunes. Its cool to know he is from Southfield. Well like the album this entry is short and sweet. HOB up! BobbyOnes out.

Iraq in this b****

I tried posting from my phone in spanish class today. Took a big ol L. I need to figure out how to do that and get on Fletcher's level. I was watching Jimmy Fallon last nite, I unlike a lot of people, find him funny. His show isnt as funny as he was on SNL but its alrite hopefully it gets better. Conan is the best so I dont expect him to get that good. The Roots basically make that show, they are dope, awesome, and everything else. They have a new cd dropping in June I think, so I'll have to cop that.

I wanted a change up from the literally over 4,000 hiphop/rap songs I have so Dirty Rose put me on to some Daft Punk. I already liked the little bits I've heard from them but the Discovery album is dope.

I like Big Sean. He's from Detroit. If your a rapper from Detroit you basically almost automatically get my support. Going to school away from the Detroit Metro area has greatly increased my love for all things Detroit. Well anyway his UKNOWBIGSEAN mixtape dropped yesterday and after lots of hassle i finally got it off his website where it can be downloaded for free. He's with Kanye and G.O.O.D. music so basically his music is lots of unique production and "look at freshness" rhymes. He's not the greatest rapper but like Kanye (pre-808) in my opinion he's entertaining. Surprsingly the song that has gotten the most play so far hasnt been Supa Dupa or Getcha Some but Iraq featuring Dusty McFly (who is also from Detroit). I want to get that Dusty McFly "Doin it" song, havent been able to find it for download though :-(

^^^^ Link to Iraq!

I also find this song VERY addicitive. Who Knows with Mike Posner.

Wiz Khalifa's Flight School is also supposed to drop today. I LOVE his Show and Prove tape. I think it has one of the best Intro-second track combos I've heard.

^^^ Second Track, Pittsburgh Sound

In HOB news, I put down some lyrics to the Mr. Me Too Beat. It is looking like the second mixtape is gonna be mostly N.E.R.D. but imma find a way to get some J Dilla on there.

We are all N*E*R*D*s

Just went to the NERD concert, tonight. It was pretty cool. People feel and fell on me. Yes feel and fell. Crowd surfing everywhere. Music was playing too. It was crazy. Pharrell was real cool for a celeb. He h*-ed, the lady who threw water on the stage. But this is a music page, so I'll focus on that. :-O

I heard "Run to the Sun" which is a beat we would probably use on the 2nd mixtape. The first one is a concept based on pastries, like Danishes, and sh*t. We are mainly talking about pastries and how much we like them, and other odd ball stuff like that.

Rob and I are a crazy mix, we're trying to be like Gnarls Barkley, and be innovative, but both produce and record.
"its like a lyrical combo, sent from the heavens/ while Rob grasp the Ones, I'll be throwin up the Sevens/"

Honestly, I'm still kinda groggy from the long day, and the loud music made me tired.

Below is probably a picture that will be in our album. Maybe with us air brushed into the backround.....or we might just ask to take a pic in front of the sign.....or we might just buy the sign....idk! :-O.

But I'm outtie, I'm sure Rob1ns has more to say then I do.

The REAL Intro

What Up? Its ya boy, F-Money aka, Dirty Rose, aka Dirt McGirt, aka Supernatural, aka SF, aka In That @$$, aka....you get it. I got name for EVERY year, and every day in that said year. Haha, I'm kidding. But I'm pretty much piggy backin off what Rob said. We are pretty much talking music with ya'll. Saying what we think and everything. I might even try and sneak in some other stuff. Ya know....like some PORN!?!?!?!? (another joke) we'll have stuff that HOB does, and just document our musical success...and basketball dominance.

Lemme give you the downlow about what HOB started out as. First HOB was: me, my boy Brandon, and the token white guy, Trent. We needed a name for our basketball team. And we choose that for some reason. That was frosh year of high school. Brandon has since lost contact with me, so we aint really boys anymore, although he might pull a 9th wonder and give us some tracks. Trent said he will design for us when he can. He is fencing for (THE) Ohio State University. Rob joined on Soph year, and we kept rolling. You might hear mentions of the whole Burgess crew. Only 2 of us are involved in the music, but still.

I think I said my piece. I did this from my phone so it feels long but will probably look short on online. But whatever.

HOB UP!!!

(usually I have a little p.s. But this time, I'm through for real....except for I'm feeling Daft Punk and their classics right now.)

Its the beginning

Hey this is BobbyOnes, aka Bobbito Ones, aka Bobbito, aka Robby Ones, aka Big Rob, aka Rob. I guess this is our official HOB blog and I dont really know what we are gonna be talkin bout on this so im just gonna talk for a quick second. My partner in crime Fletcher aka Dirty Rose and I have two mixtapes in the plans right now. One is a concept mixtape, with the concept being pastries based off of our experiences at Astoria's pastry shop in downtown Detroit. The other being just another mixtape we just gatherin instrumentals for right now.

Anyway I'm listenin to Nas' Untitled album. According to my itunes playlist this is about the sixth time I've listened to this album on here and i think its pretty dope. I always read on messageboards that nas sucks at picking production but i think he has done pretty well over his career. Granted I have not listened to Nastradamous and I Am (I will when I get around to it, the consenous seems that these are the two worst ones so im in no rush) yet but I have listened to all the other albums and the production is not that horrible. I think two reasons people talk about this all the time is the expectations were set so high from Illmatic and because JayZ has had better beats during their prime. I prefer Nas and feel he talks about deeper stuff more consistently.

That reminds me of a incident that happened when I had to drop my big sis off at the airport. I brought along Streets Disciple (disc one) to play along in the ride, which was like the first cd I ever got and listened all the way through (I think on whatever year it came out on Christmas while playing Jak and Daxter 3 in the basement). Well i could tell she wasnt feelin it the first couple songs in and i felt bad. I had to fast forward to Just A Moment so to kill the tension. That made me think about how many fans Nas may have lost because sometimes he is more about the message then the sound. Another reason why everybody loves Jay over him.

On the pastry mixtape front, I think we have all the instrumentals picked out and we are finishing up put lyrics down. Also, I wanna make beats. I fooled around wit frooty loops for a second in 08 and pretty much they all sucked. It was a demo and i just wanted to do stuff quickly. After listening to Donuts for the first time I think in November 08, I have a whole new outlook on production and have quickly become a big J Dilla fan. Before I vaguely knew of him but now I am glad Detroit could produce such a monster producer. Maybe if I can find something to make beats with for free, I can make one or two for the second mixtape.Thats it, back to Untitled.

Edit: Oops Happy Easter! Or happy bunny day to some.
